Rhodes died Tuesday, Funeral services were held at the family residence, 1320 Florida avenue northeast, Thursday afternoon. Rev. M. Thomas of St. Mary's Church officiated. Interment was at Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. Rhodes was a native of Philadelphia, but went to New York in his early manhood to accept a position in the customs house there. Later he came to this city, where he remained until his death. He married the oldest daughter of Martin Renehan, who was doorkeeper at the White House under five Presidents. His widow and four sons survive him. The oldest son, William S. Rhodes was on the Brooklyn in the Spanish-American War as gunner, and received three medals of honor from Admiral Schley.

     William Server Rhodes was born on July 29, 1876 at Washington, DC, USA.1,2 He began military service in 1892 at U.S. Navy Joined U.S. Navy at age 15, father signed papers.3 He left the Navy in 1905.3 He married Jennie Stephanie Wildman on November 15, 1910 at Washington, DC, USA.4 William Server Rhodes enlisted again in the military on March 8, 1917, serving with at U.S. Navy.5,6 He ended military service in June, 1924 at U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve.7 He died on June 5, 1940 at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD, USA, at age 63.8,9 He was buried on June 7, 1940 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, VA, USA.8,10
